THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS WITHIN YOU. — LUKE 17:21

[Statement]
For centuries, mountains have been revered as places where the human spirit encounters the sacred. This series begins from that tradition, yet gently turns its gaze inward. What if the sacred we seek through nature has always existed within us? The Kingdom of God Is Within You contemplates the divinity residing within each person through washi, water, earth, and the act of worship, all held within the living processes of nature.

[Background]
Mount Fuji has long been revered as a sacred mountain in Japan. Since the great eruption approximately 1,300 years ago, it has remained a focal point of mountain worship and spiritual devotion.

From August of last year through February of this year, I undertook a project exploring the spiritual traditions and cultural beliefs surrounding Mount Fuji. As part of this process, I created a body of work and dedicated a painting to Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine, a shrine established to console souls and pacify the destructive power of fire, while facing the sacred mountain in reverence.
This exhibition presents works created through that project.

The title is drawn from Luke 17:21.

For me, this verse not only reflects a Western understanding of faith, but also resonates deeply with the essence of Shinto in Japan.

Where is God?
Where does the divine emerge?
Where do we discover it?

Carrying these questions, I walked the foothills of Mount Fuji, contemplating volcano and life, fear and prayer, and the relationship between humanity and nature.
